Yeah fair enough, perhaps you've redeemed yourself slightly from mentioning Jimmy Buffet earlier in this thread.

Jimmy Buffet was a nice man, made a fortune with his restaurants and resorts. He also wrote a few decent songs, but his hit-to-miss ratio was exponentially worse than Timo Werner's. Maybe you should judge an artist on his best work not his worst, but boy was his oeuvre full of stinkers.

Sorry..you seem to miss the point about Jimmy B.... although he wrote some deeper stuff his music and concerts were about fun and enjoyment,,

Similar to listening to John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High"",,stuck in traffic on the Hammersmith Roundabout in the winter rain, Its a lot different  topping Kenosha Pass with the Real South Park opening up in front of you surrounded by snowcapped Rocky Mountains listening to JD. Margaritaville for example in the same traffic jam is totally different from hanging out in a real, not tourist, local Island bar very "relaxed'. sand in your toes and smiling company..all about context I guess.

If "He Went To Paris" doesn't stir your heartstrings or "West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gowns" doesn't bring a bitter sweet smile then maybe you are right.

Not a call for argument..just an OG remembering younger days..and I know of at least one og here who agrees! (Looks over his shoulder for backup!)🍻🏖️🏞️🥰

It gets worse, it was Chara who's the big Buffet fan. I'm a heavy metal / punk officianado tbh.

Ooooh @Chara, there's a time and a place for Buffet. He's of Polynesian heritage, I'm also someone that spends and lot of time on a beach, and surfing,  and smoking (ahem), (and @Sciatikais much less of an opponent than a great white).  I have listened to Radio Margaritaville a lot in the US. But he is an effing sell out.

I am a heavy fan of punk too (post-punk revival was my youth).

I also  looooooovvvve we play The Liquidator before games. That's very political @Sciatika because it's two fingers up at all the National Front twats that Chelsea had such a problem with  back then.

Hey @Alex,,well appreciated response ...all in the right spirit...the more different people seem the more they are alike 😉

One Particular Harbour was his classic. Epic tune. Those steel drums take me to the Carribbean every time I hear it. Still something you or I are generally going to have the piss ripped out of us for liking. Like Bob Seger (like a lot of his tunes, Roll Me Away, Hollywood Nights). Springsteen is just about creeping into acceptability these days.

@Alex,,, Funny how subtle changes in music tastes occur..love Bob Marley but no real lover of reggae.. ten years in the Caribbean listening to bad Marley renditions by local bands tends to cloud ones views!

One song that always seems to resonate with a lot of people is "American Pie",,,at an excellent post wedding family 'adult" dinner  I suggested,,correctly..during the course of the afternoon that nearly everyone around the table somewhere had that song in their music collection,

One guest..a World renown Cancer specialist it seems..surprisingly , really nice guy but not one I would have expected to be in the frame, said he had seen McLean live in Canada it was a very mixed bunch of people !

Can never quite warm to Springsteen but like you find many an artist who's output I am not particularily drawn to have a song I do enjoy.

As a complete and total aside,,ear worm lately of "Pancho and Lefty"..checked some out (again) on youtube..from Van Zante to Willy/Merle but for me Emmy Lou live at Farm Aid blows them all away...any views? (anyone)

Anyway @chara, ultimately, I guess I'll jump in with you into that Venn diagram overlapp of Chelsea fan/Parrothead (Buffet fans to anyone else), if we're judging him on his best work. I will also manhandle @Mark Kellyinto our tiny segment. 😂

You've nothing to apologise about Chara.

I once remember, decades ago during his Arsenal pomp, Thierry Henry doing some post-match interview on MoTD and he started talking about something other than the match, pretty sure it was a charity he was representing or something.  Cut to the studio and that miserable scouse, Mark Lawrenson having an absolute, vitriolic rant about how horrified he was and how Henry should "just stick to talking about football". I couldn't believe the amount of vitriol he was spitting about it, but it's a clear position for a certain type of person, oblivious  to the hypocrisy of reacting so strongly and unpleasantly to something. That sort of negativity isn't fun or conducive to a pleasant atmosphere in any environment.

More sad news Graham Thorpe RIP (only 55)

Yes very sad.  Far too young.

Great cricketer and a Chelsea season ticket holder 💙
