Absolutely agree, it's just an odd thing to come out and say at this stage of the season on the back of our best run of form. Or maybe it isn't and it's his way of sending a message to the board that if he doesn't get some of the things he wants, he'll be walking.

The thing is, in reality, he won't walk, very few managers will, because they want they pay day!

Tbh I don’t blame him. I’m guessing of course but maybe he’s annoyed at all the sack speculation so he’s saying, hey it works both ways. I get that.

In a way it will serve the club and fans right if he does walk away,  goes to a bigger job and we stagnate or go backwards next season. There are very few if any who'll want to play football as attacking as Poch wants us to play, so if be does quit,  be ready for everything to be ripped up and most likely started again  with dour, pragmatic football that will ruin Palmer.

I think he's been judged extremely harshly  by the fans and media, so  I won't blame him if he feels he's not liked or wanted here and will never be more than a few bad results away from the sack speculation, so why not take a job where he might be more wanted than he is here.

@My Blood Is Blue, I think he was speaking very much tongue in cheek, given the endless speculation about his future.

I don't quite see it the same as @martin1905 but had a similar interpretation that Pochettino was being a bit barbed and sarcastic throughout. He also made a comment about being "very happy" to have fit players "in the last week of the season". I think he was directing any sarcasm at the journalists in the room rather than the owners, mind.

I suppose if you think we are playing the way we currently are because he has got them going, it just needed a bit of time, imagine how good we will be if we continue on this path then I'm sure there's people quietly saying I told you so. If, like me, you think this is what we are capable of, should have been playing like this all season and it reiterates how bad a job he has done then it just makes the decision to part ways even more obvious. The good will never outweigh the bad and unfortunately for him, that's the story of his career.

This is ultimately where we are at; fans, owners, the club in general.

I have flip-flopped a little bit this season, and right now I am in the camp where I find the recent performances as proof as what might have been....... that said, if we pick up 7-9 points from these last 3 and end up with between 61 and 63 points, then it is difficult to argue against the progress that has been made, and where would we be without such a savage injury list.

Hmmm........

Just my opinion..stated before and probably will again!.... an average coach not bad but not elite,,,,as someone commented really we should have been seeing better results from the squad earlier than turned out.

Injuries taken into account but I don't see The Poch as a "Leader".....IF he takes (took) Chelsea to a title it will be a one off...the elite coaches are serial winners not occasional good run winners,,,a relatively safe pair of hands as they say but not a serious challenger every season....settle for that?

The Poch has well documented  career "form",,,the "star dust" sprinkled young coach at Soton and the almost man at Spurs and PSG....stumbling at the last hurdle...familiar?....spots and leopards come to mind.

Just OG thoughts.

Added..meant to mention...almost man with Kane and Son at Spurs and a list of names at PSG that seems unreal.... might give a hint?

Those who think we should have been doing better with this squad are setting incredibly high expectations for any new manager. It’s hard to think we will have a repeat of the same injuries next season, added to some new players to be added to the squad.

So if Poch should have been doing better, well any new guy is going to have very few excuses from next season. The club and some fans should really be care what it wishes for !

Pretty strange comments, but I do also think he struggled to get across what he means sometimes, so hopefully it isn’t as bad/extreme as it sounds. At first glance/listen it doesn’t sound great though!

Poch just talking in his usual calm, honest  and matter of fact way.

Football managers leaving clubs happens all the time, so there's nothing wrong with him saying it's not the end of the world because it simply isn't.

There is also the issue of him being happy to stay as well as the owners wanting him.  If he wants a couple of ecperienced players (something nearly every member on here is calling for) but the owners won't sign them, then that would be a perfectly reasonable issue on which to quit the club.  Same happened with TT. You either go with what the owners want or you leave.

I think he knows exactly what he’s doing and saying. He’s on a high and he’s daring them to back him, couldn’t win in a raffle and as he’s been forced to play 11 or 12 in the team by injuries and has hit on a bit of a formula that works - he playing his cards.

Call his bluff, if we’ve got an adequate replacement.

How many "elite managers" are there who'd win this current team the title next season?  Imho, there's Pep, Klopp and Carlo and we 100% certain not going to be hiring any of them and neither we wouldn't win the league next season with any of them.

Then you look at their some of their records in England. Klopp needed plenty of time at Liverpool to get them really going. Pep took a year to get City going. Carlo was completely unable to do anything at midtable Everton.  But we expect Poch to come into midtable Chelsea with an unproven team and unprecedented injury problems and expect him to get us flying in season one.

Imho, completely unreasonable and unrealistic expectations put on his shoulders this season! It was and always should have been about season 2, but the more I think about it the more i get the feeling that we won't have that season 2.  Shame, because i was going to put a nice wedge on us finishing 4th next season and higher the season after.

I certainly didn’t wish for a specialist in failure.

If he goes, let’s hope you have been right all along. We certainly don’t want , nor can afford, sideways/ backwards steps next season!

None because the level of the team is the problem not the coaching.

His CV with his and being given the bag of dolly mixtures by the first team coordinators, points to INEOS although one suspects TT is ahead of MP.

But you and everyone knows the players were bought to develop into a quality team over a few years. There is every sign they are on track to do just that.

I wouldn't swap our squad for any outside the top three!  I'll go further and say that in two years time we'll have the strongest squad depth in the league. We'll probably need a couple more Palmer level signings to be the best first 11 team.

It's not about being right or wrong. It's about instilling winning tactics, mentality, habits and spirit into the squad. He's won nothing in England, won nothing in a European arena and Potter would have won more with that PSG team.

I'd actually began to question myself, but that stunt today summed up his personality. Personally opportunistic with a touch or narcissism. Don't care who we get in, as long as it's not him. We don't need the promising players we di have exposed to that type of personality any longer than is absolutely necessary.

Well thought out and presented response ... and appreciated.

As ever the elite are few and far between and no way are Chelsea going to get a proven elite coach..the hope, for me. is somehow one of the "star dusted" younger coaches comes really good or  a younger truly "coming" coach takes up the challenge...I am not as up with the pool of coaches available..especially abroad to make a judgement but I see no real contender.

Agree the guys you mention needed time but they all had "form" to suggest it was a good call to give them time,

Young managers on the continent?

Obviously the highly rated Alonso, but he's staying where he is. Below him there's Amorin at Sporting Lisbon who well thought of as well. Below their level would be a complete punt.

Over here the best young manager has to McKenna.  Two successive promotions and plays nice football. He'll stand a good chance of being the next Utd manager if he keeps Ipswich out of a relegation battle.

The three elites are out of the question, so the next best levels are probably TT and Conte but neither of them play the kind of football this squad is being built to play, so they should not even be in the picture imho.

Imho, if Poch leaves, we'll find ourselves in a very difficult position trying to  find a manager who is right for this squad at this moment in time.

Plenty want Poch to go and they are of course entitled to want that. What I genuinely  don't understand though is how many would quite like us to go back and play grinding, shit on a stick football in the most attacking era of football I can remember.

Last lines the crux of the issue for me..(and I think most on here)...thanks for the informative response...not news to me which shows the paucity of choice I guess but appreciate you taking the time.

Made more difficult by the football played in our league being different from other countries.

TB talked about KK finding it difficult to adapt to playing here after playing in Italy for so long. KK said the main difference was, playing in Italy you had time to think before you ran while over here you have to think while you run.

We'd have a snowball in hell's chance of winning the title playing his football.

What, like winning the Champions League??

Tactical masterclass’s x 3 versus Man City??

Managing the club heroically through the Government enforced crippling of our club??

You’re not convincing me much.

Twice the man and multiple times the coach, than this current incumbent.

Winning a cup is a completely different ball game to  winning the Premier League.

You also take a very small sample size against one club. The worst Utd team in living memory had twice done Liverpool this season. Does that mean Ten Hag is a better than Klopp? Of course not because any results results are possible in this league over a small number of games.

I'll be forever thankful to TT for winning us another CL, but we were not going anywhere fast with him in the league and I have to be honest I was pretty bored a lot of the time watching his very safe, pragmatic football.  I thought our midfield play was slow, sterlie and tedious and our attacking play just as poor a lot of the time.

I've always preferred managers who's teams played with fair and were attack minded  over those who are grinders and pragmatic. Football has never been just about winning to me.

I’m pretty bored of driving 200 miles each way and seeing us getting battered by 3, 4 or more under the current bloke. How poor a coach he is to get slaughtered by 4 at the current Man Utd. Get outplayed by Sheffield Utd, played off the park by Brentford at home, couldn’t beat or even score against the most out of form club in Europe at the time.

I prefer winning football, preferably easy on the eye - But there’s no choice to make between winning football and pretty losing football. Results business it is and for the match-going fans that I speak to, there’s no choice to make.

The art of defending has fascinated me as much as the stuff that goes on elsewhere in the pitch. It’s why I loved Jose Mk1 - tough, resilient and brilliant defensively but absolutely devastatingly brilliant going forward. Robben and Duff in tandem.
