Yeah, I agree they will improve next season, but I think it's fair to say a big weakness this season has been at the back (not helped by the constant changes to the back 4 due to injuries) and with Silva's experience also going, I just feel it's a position we could do with strengthening.

Whilst what we have are all good options, none of them are at the level of say a Silva, Rudiger or Terry. I think certain CBs improve whoever they are partnered with, but none of the ones we'll have next season are that.

I guess we'll see, but from memory, I thought our best defensive showing all season was Disasi and Colwill at the Etihad. Appreciate consistency is the key

Hmm Mark....from my memory Chopper never "put" anything anywhere,,,somewhat more "forceful" than that!

The point well made though🤣

It's a sign of how far we've fallen, but it looks like we're going to have a very small number of players away for the Euros or Copa America this summer:

Argentina - Fernandez (if he's fit)

Ecuador - Caicedo

England - Gallagher, Palmer

Spain - Cucurella (maybe)

Ukraine - Mudryk

Should be a chance to go into pre-season with a reasonsably rested squad, and give extended breaks to the guys that are playing the international tournaments (despite it meaning we won't have a midfield for the USA tour). I hope we don't allow anyone to go to the Olympics, especially Fernandez but we also shouldn't allow Gusto or Ugochukwa to go.

In fairness, I imagine a lot of those that could have been picked but weren't, will have to do with fitness, as much as anything else. Either way, it's a good thing for us as you say, it means we hopefully have a well-rested and fit squad ready for pre-season for the new coach to work with.

I had forgotten about the Olympics, hmm, I can see Enzo going and probably Gusto as well. I think it would be harsh to prevent them going, but with the clubs' interests in mind, I really hope they don't go.
