De Gea who has just seen a 300k per week contract finish and is on a free (he'll be cheap wont he!). De Gea who is bang average with the ball at his feet and despite being a great shot stopper, has made considerable mistakes now for about 4 seasons .

De Gea would have been an easy one season option, who know where the club will be at the end of next season, along with Sanchez would more than likely still be at Brighton a  a number 2 or 3, if Winstanley & co wanted to revisit next summer "god knows why"

Paredes would be quality for us and I dare say offers a lot more of that precious commodity Poch was talking about the other day - experience. He's a proven CL level midfield destroyer with size, power, aggression, genuine quality and ability on the ball, decent passing range and I cannot help but think he looks ideal to play alongside Enzo.

OK he is 29 but has probably three more seasons at the top of his game and this might mesh nicely with Hall's development pathway.  and coming from Juve, if it could hasten the departure of KFC Family Size Bucket, then I'd maybe bring him in AS WELL AS Caicedo if it were possible.

My concern on him would be he isn't the quickest and having good movement and positioning (he does) will only cover that partially in the Prem. He might be able to deal with it, he may come unstuck. He certainly wouldn't be the first to come to the Prem, and indeed come to Chelsea, from Serie A and find the step up in relentless pace and the speed in which the ball gets whizzed around, a challenge.

Lets see. I rate him, I think he would be great for us. He's another one who has a nasty streak which would endear him to our matchgoing fans fairly quickly.

At 32 years old, I suspect De Gea is looking for more than a 1-2 year deal . It's his last good contract and he will cost nothing, so safe to assume that De Gea would not have much interest coming here for a short term deal, and why would we want to lock up up to a 3-4 year expensive deal at his age?

Compared to a 25yo who has a better skillset suited to a modern day keeper and is earning about a third of what De Gea will likely be asking for.

I think it's self explanatory.

Are you Droy in disguise? I suppose if you begin spouting meaningless xG stats when the season starts we'll know

No I am not Droy

If you are happy with what's happening to the club good for you.

This is no longer a Chelsea I recognise as being my club but hopefully by the end of the seasons we will have new heroes to cheer for.

You obviously did see chelsea, when the club was s1it.

probably not  that much difference if you spread Sanchez salary over the normal Chelsea standard 5 years contract.

You seem to be in the same boat as @xceleryx assuming Poch does not have the skill sets to change formation and tactics based on a players ability?

You won't be drawing me into this, as I don't understand in the slightest where you have come to this conclusion.

Being unable to get rid of Kepa because the previous regime gave him a stupid contract is one thing. Doubling down and signing another average keeper on a 7 year contract is just nasty work.

Cheap back up for Kepa this season indeed 🤔

The club have had a cracking window but this is just throwing money away imo.

I wouldn't be at all against this. Good age. Experience. Has an insane passing range. Disciplined.

No doubt suggested by Poch and/ or Enzo.  An all-Argentinian pivot might not be a bad idea.

Bit of experience and some game management know-how would be a good addition to this squad.  I wouldn't be against a last 25 mins closer type of midfielder.

Good post - I agree with pretty much everything you've said here.  Particularly about the nasty streak.

I'm also with you in regards to as well as Caicedo (or whoever we move onto).  We need more depth, physical presence and know-how in midfield.  Especially given we're likely to loan Big Les out by the sounds of things.

Makes him even cheaper over 7 years.

Well done TBSD, played yet another blinder here.

It's a long contract, but it protects some value in him over the next 3-4 seasons. Where he will either show enough to become a short-mid term No1 , or at worst show enough to become a good squad option and competition as a No2.

I can't believe we are paying him anymore than say 70k-80k per week. If we decide to move him on after 3-4 seasons, he will still retain some value around the £10-15m mark, in part due to still having some time of his contract.

Have people not considered an obvious scenario here ? Maybe our manager has suggested he wants competition for Kepa. After working with him and seeing him up close over the last 6 weeks, just maybe he has some doubts about him? He may have had a discussions with the technical department about alternatives, that conversation may include the GK coach who understands this specialist position. Maybe the outcome was we don't really want to spend big on a long term N01 this summer, due to lack of available options or the squad being prioritised in other areas.

So lets consider a reasonable competitive option who has some good experience and won't cost a huge amount of money.  This type of signing is an absolute no brainer, if people believe there is a long list of alternatives to Sanchez who are available, wont cost huge money, has PL experience and can use his feet. Then I am all ears ????

Have people not considered that people get all of the above but are simply saying £25m and 7 years of wages isn't 'cheap' no matter what mental gymnastics people use to spin it otherwise?

So what is cheap to fulfill the criteria required here and who would be a viable option ? Once you think about it, I think you will realise it is cheap

It may prove to be good value, but it's not cheap.

If I need a runaround car to get to work I don't buy an Audi RS6 because it costs less than a Ferrari and tell myself well accounting for inflation a Saab 900 might cost be the same if they were sold now.

With all respect, it's a random analogy that has no correlation to football. To be honest, most standard business practices have little correlation to the football world. The level that football has evolved to in recent years , means it is a complete one off and the only comparison is football itself.

Which takes me back to the question that you could not / chose not to provide an answer for. I'm not having a go by the way, you could have a long hard think about it and it will be very difficult to find a cheaper alternative in the market who ticks the number of boxes that Sanchez does. Which is probably the reason we have ended up with Sanchez .

Highlighted Section - not as a back-up for 38 games, along with the facts that Kepa has only been injured for 13 games during his entire career at Chelsea. Also, your statement would suggest Poch does not have the skill sets to adjust formation and tactics in extreme circumstances. "One can only hope the team are never chasing a game."

It's also considered being prepared for the unexpected. I mean we saw the difference alone when swapping Kepa and Mendy for few games here and there, god forbid Kepa goes down with any sort of injury and misses a lengthy period of time. Having to bring in a keeper that's useless at ground level can completely disrupt the team and goes beyond a manager making adjustments.

I think it may be worth looking at Youssouf Fofana from Monaco, especially seeing as we seem to have a bit of aa thing for the name at our club. He's a French international, could easily fill the Caicedo role and would cost considerably less.

Because you're asking a question I've already answered. I've no issue with us signing Sanchez so why would I suggest an alternative?

He's just not 'cheap' by any objection reasoning. Even if you want to stick solely to football, there's like 10 or 12 goalkeepers more expensive than him and hundreds of thousands less expensive than him. Worth the money for what we need? Maybe. Cheap? No.

He was cheeks at Juventus last season and lacks a defensively capable bone in his body. If our idea is to pair both Enzo and Paredes together in a pivot then it's going to be one hell of a long season.

If anything he's more of an Enzo backup than a partner, as passing and creation are the things he does relatively well.

Couldn't disagree more. As someone that had to watch Paredes play last season at Juventus he's absolutely useless on the defensive side of the ball. His strengths lie purely in his passing and to a degree creating, the rest of his game is very mid to say the least.

He's virtually Jorginho without the positional discipline, intelligence or awareness, but with some additional passing range and technical ability. If this is being touted as a Caicedo alternative then whoever is making that decision needs to have any and all decision making responsibilities revoked immediately.
