Bison
If they spent 25m on a keeper they're now trying to replace 12 months later I wonder how much the new one will cost... Jorgensen hasn't fallen out with his manager and isn't third choice at his club so I'm going to guess £40m+.

That's the official line but when Sanchez starts doing what he did last season (passing the ball to opponents and booting it out of play) under a coach who reportedly wants his keeper heavily involved in the build-up, what happens then? Floyd25
Heard some very mixed things about Jorgensen, but time will tell, just wish they’d break a habit and buy a world class keeper, but that’s never happening clearly…maybe they’ll get this position right one day. I'd imagine a coach that wants his keeper heavily involved in the build up will be able to coach the team in this. Last season we tried to play out from the back but clearly weren't practicing it on the training ground. Sanchez, like everyone else gets a fresh start for me. Let's see what these players can do in a well organised team, with a game plan rather than just being told to run. I have a feeling Sanchez will change a lot of people's opinions on him and quite quickly too.

If he has clear deficiences we pay a premium for that. I mean, it's not enough to have 10 goalkeepers in the age bracket 18-26. We need at least one more for good measure. Preferably someone who won't be a clear upgrade on either Petrovic or Sanchez as well. 1

paulw66
EUR 20m - EUR 25m being talked about now for Jorgensen. Interestingly Marseille were also after him, and their coach is RdZ who also plays possession-based football. Edited July 24 by paulw66

I just watched two minutes of clips on YouTube and every save he made he pushed the ball back into the danger area , it was like the goalkeeper had been replaced with a trampoline. A recipe for disaster and one any competent coach will recognise and play on.

Last season it was clear that tactical coaching was pretty low on the list of things done at Cobham under Pochettino. I know some enjoyed the 'crazy' way we sometimes played... it certainly led to exciting games that "thrilled the neutrals". Maresca not only wants to play out from the back, he wants one of the full-backs to invert, AND the goalkeeper to sometimes become a centre back. That's not going to happen without it being drilled in during training, and we've already seen from the pre-tour training sessions that the goalkeepers have occasionally been training with the rest of the squad, rather than in their own specialised group, including sometimes participating in the rondos. For obvious reasons we won't see much if any of the specific training sessions on video, but I'll bet anything that Maresca has the keepers working with the back fours on positional and passing routines... something that I doubt has ever happened under any previous manager. In general terms, I rate Sanchez above all the other keepers at the club. I think his panicky moments with the ball at his feet in the past had much to do with the panicky mind-set of the defenders around him. All had been told to play a certain way, without it being drilled into them. I'm willing to wait and see what a month or so of training sessions brings us.

I’ve watched him in the first half of last season and he’s indecisive and this puts the defenders on edge. Got big errors in his keeping too, takes too long on the ball also - last season his decision making with the ball at his feet was very questionable. But I accept that this may have been down to the last coach not being the most tactically astute. Be delighted if I’m proved wrong, but he’s iffy. Much prefer Petrovic to Sanchez - and the former is not a world beater. Petrovic was improving his weaker areas with game time. Sanchez was getting worse, when he got removed, and then injured. We have and as the season progresses, I suspect have bigger, more pressing issues than goalkeeper. Edited July 24 by east lower

If we are looking for a danish goalkeeper why not the one who spent last season at Leicester? I think he’d be a better fit based on his stats from last season. Morgs
Another bang average young keeper in his 20s costing mega money who is no better than what we have. Oh goody. We have quite the collection now. For the bantz we could field a team of goalkeepers if we wanted to. And still not keep a clean sheet. 1

chara
@Morgs....agree with your post re keepers and this post is in no way reflects any criticism from me.but clean sheets are like stats. Only of value in context not as statements. All keepers will concede goals and remember highly skilled players are doing their best to score so the job as much as anything else is to keep the "Against" column lower than the "For" column.😁🚦
