My Blood Is Blue

Recommended Posts

As it's the start of a new month, an overview of the gossip so far. As always this is just a bit of fun. Given how quickly things have moved the last few days, much of this will no doubt be out-of-date by lunchtime! 🤣

Anything in red is either a new rumour or a change in circumstances (such as new contract signed) since the last update. In most cases I've only noted the first rumour seen, but where a story changes (for example one claims a swap deal where no swap was in the original story) this has also been included. Blue represents players signed by Chelsea. Bold indicates official confirmation on TOCWS

Amazes me how quickly supporters form really certain views about what has gone on behind the scenes on literally no evidence, just their own feelings and vibes. There are loads of plausible reasons, beyond but also including money, players would want to leave this club right now. It isn't hard to think of them.

It's a good point , this club we support is essentially a completely new entity , there really is very little of "Roman's Chelsea" left and maybe the players that want to leave are as upset about that as some of us are .

We're all made of different stuff , I'd like to think I'd tough it out and help the club rise again but if everywhere you look it seems to be faltering then maybe I'd like a bit more security .

I do think we are allowed to be disappointed with Mount's stance seeing as he's been following the time honoured " Local boy done good" narrative and was looked upon as one of ours who would stick about and dig in and make us good again but we don't know how much the club have been yanking him around , we're only seeing it from one perspective but I do get the feeling that he may be a little too enamoured with the lifestyle and has changed , no tangible evidence for it really , just a feeling.

Hope I'm wrong, but think we have shot our bolt with Rice. We could have built our side around him and Enzo.

Imo Mount is good, very good at times but that’s it. If he wasn’t home grown I don’t think anyone would be bothered tbh.

If Reecey left…now that really would be absolutely devastating. In my view, *he* is the pride of Stamford Bridge. Not Mase.

I agree. However, I can see no point in keeping someone who doesn't want to be here. As for having players who have come through the club, there are still plenty of those currently in the squad and quite a few more likely to be coming through over the next season or so (Hall and Colwill spring to mind, Maatsen possibly, too) that I'm not that concerned about Mount.

Contrary to many on here, I never saw him as captain material. (I'm not sure about Reece James in that regard, either... he seems too easy to wind up and can sometimes fly off the handle. Passion is great, but his borders on stupidity at times)

Personally I think Rice is one of the most overrated players of the last 5 years. Would take him in a heartbeat - but would rather have Caicedo any day. Rice lacks the agility, football brain, positioning to dominate elite level football and ever be more than an incredibly effective ball-carrying destroyer with great technique. Seems like a top lad too though.

Rice got found out by Jorghi in the Euro final - would get found out by Modric-type players - any top midfielder who knows how to control the flow of a game. Caicedo has something really different IMO - absolute mentality monster.

We will do nothing without players with experience and the right mentality. Mount and Kova were two of the few remaining who could be put on that list - regardless of whether Mase will ever deliver at Lampard's level. We need some identity at our club.

Absolutely knocked it out of the park with this post Max. Probably an even more pertinent reason why we're in this position than the lack of a striker. Back in the day half the team were leaders so that if one was off their game there were at least a couple more that could rally the troops. We may not have won every game or even turned around every unfortunate occurence in a game but we never, ever gave up.

This squad has its captain who undoubtably bleeds blue but he can no longer lead by example and was never the most voiciferous player stuck as he was at right back. We also have Thiago Silva of course but his uncertainty with the language means he is probably ten years too late coming to the club to be that leader. Other than that we have a squad of followers, no-one sufficiently skilled to lead by example nor lairy enough to brazen it out on the pitch.

Kovacic was a good player on his day but never gave the impression of caring that much for the badge. Good but not good enough to be irreplaceable. I won't miss him.

Mount is a disappointment. I expected more from him and I think he has been cruelly misadvised. I'll miss him but I think we will manage without him, even in the short term.

Like I've said in other posts I won't shed a tear for any of the players we end up disposing of primarilly because of the way they have acted over the last 12 months. When asked to step up they failed to a man either through injury or attitude.

Yes we need to reintroduce a club identity but if we're being honest did that identity show itself in the current crop of players when it was most needed? We don't need to build from the ground up, we actually need to build the foundations first, that is what it has come to, and if that means changing over half the starting lineup immediately and continuing to cull beyond that I'll be quite happy.

Agreed, but to be honest I think he is a product of media hype and is nowhere near the player, nor the valuation, they would have you believe.

I am more concerned about Levi Colwill. The fact the Brighton thought it was worth it to make an official approach to sign him this week makes one think that maybe the player really has forgotten that he is a ctually a Chelsea player and was in agreement with the offer. He is guranteed a start at Brighton who has European football next season, neither of which he will be offered here.  Maybe we could offer to give Cucurella back to Brighton if they stop their pursuit of Colwill.

The very idea that Brighton low balled a £30m offer for Colwill after absolutely rinsing us for Cucu leads me to think we should tell them to stick their offer where the sun don't shine and cease any dealings with them .

Yes but as supporters that's what we do.  Of course we don't know exactly what goes on but we're entitled to form opinions and/or follow our feelings.

In my Chelsea world, I'm really upset about MM leaving.  I just don't understand what has got into him.  At least he's not going to Liverpool or Arsenal, but even so, Man United???  Why for goodness sake???

That's my exact point, Jane. I don't know either. No one here does. But many have happily reached a conclusion that it can only be about money, and about getting the biggest wage possible.

It may well be, completely or partially, about money. You just have to ignore a lot of what else has gone for Mount and this club in the last 18 months to not identify plenty of other factors that could plausibly play a role. I see people here talk as if it's fact Mount was offered highly lucrative terms, at the same time as talking about it being a fact that the new owners have introduced a wage cap, as it were. It doesn't add up.

Of course we are. I am. I just won't make very firm conclusions on how we've got to where we are.

Sadder over this than I am the prospect of losing Mount, a true class act and one of my all-time favourite players.

He's been nothing short of amazing for us and an absolute bargain but sadly time has caught up with him

One class act. Bloke grafted his way to the top and seemed to appreciate the way the club and fans respected him by unswerving service.

Difference between a man and a ‘man-boy’, maybe?

Sad indeed, what a legend. Right call however. He's quickly going down the Ivanovic path and no one wants to see that. Despite this, I will say I thought he was extremely solid in his last two appearances and that's really how I want to remember him for Chelsea.

Reportedly we have turned down a £30M offer from Brighton for Levi Colwill. Hopefully he’ll be part of Poch’s plans for next season. Absolutely no way we should think of selling him.

The cheek of Brighton to offer us half of what they sold us Cucurella for is quite something.

I'm assuming Colwill is going to be offered a new and much-improved contract in the next few weeks.  Could be one of the key signings for us longer term.  Brighton can absolutely jog on.  Even if he didn't sign and stuck around next season, he'd likely end up being worth more than £30m judging by what we've seen so far.

I suspect Colwill will not sign a new contract until he sees his role in the team next year. But regardless, Brighton can seriously F off with that offer. I wouldn't consider less than 80 million. He's one of the best, if not THE best, left footed CB in the country.

Agree on Colwill. If Arsenal get Rice alongside Jorghi, Partay, Odegaard and Saka, that will be one hell of a midfield. Not many better than that in PL if any ?

Not too fussed about Mount leaving but when added in to Kovacic and those who've left recently it is a concern when taken as a collective. Can't really blame any of them though, I think post-RA and TT I'd have been out the door too in their position.

August would be a better time to compare squad.

Also the Arse will be playing 2-3 games per week in the PL and CL which none I’ve the above apart from Jorghi has any experience. So I can’t see that combination being a real threat to any of the top teams next season.
