Popular Post NoblyBobly
A few positives looking forward. We didn’t lose. But for appalling refereeing and a keeper deciding to do his one worldly performance of the season , we would have won. The CB partnership looks promising. Sanchez didn’t dick around with the ball. Our goal was brilliant James back will be a bonus. Surely Enzo's days as a stick on starter are numbered . The team has decent players that need to gel with each other. That does take time. just a final thought. All this talk of inverted full backs, has anyone considered Cucu as a proper DM? He has qualities a bit like Gallagher…high energy, breaks up play, quick, great engine. He surely would be an upgrade on Enzo if we get James back. 3
Popular Post Morgs
Excellent first half, very unlucky not to be two or three up at half time but for some excellent goalkeeping of the sort we've not seen at Chelsea since we won the European Cup. Enzo did okay but his problem, or one of them at least, is that he fades badly after 60 minutes and this I think is a sign that he is still struggling to deal with the frantic pace of the game, especially on a blazing hot day like yesterday. He also cannot deal with being pressed. Palace did that very effectively second half. Jackson, contrary to what most are saying, did great. Scored one, was an absolute menace all game and scared them to death whenever he picked the ball up and started running at the centre halves. Was pulling them all over the place first half and could have had a hat trick easily. I don't want to get on his case for the big chances at the end as I think Henderson pulled off a miracle save with the centre half beaten and again got lucky when the ball broke to one of theirs. Jackson did everything right and was very unlucky. You can't legislate for last ditch Hail Mary saves like that. It is part of the game unfortunately. Colwill and Fofana showing a lot more aggression and had another good game I thought. Sanchez perhaps crap for their goal as I think a top keeper keeps that out, but that's par for him. Cucurella unusually discomposed second half and had a few too many wayward passes of the sort he normally completes very easily. Palace came to be aggressive, to kick, to foul, to disrupt, to break up and to spoil, to appeal for everything, to go to ground as soon as they were beaten and to give nothing away, and to break with pace when they got the ball. They camped out for their point and were good value for it I thought. They were excellent second half and the Eze - Doucoure - Wharton axis is a very positive one for them. They need a striker but will be fine this season. They are a very good team playing near the top of their potential and it's sad now few of our fans acknowledge that. They deserved their point for their second half performance and we'd have given them rough justice had Jackson slotted the winner at the end. The worrying thing for us is that every other side barring City and Arsenal will do that to us at the Bridge this season and we've already lost to City. As Maresca said after the game - we won't win every game and Palace are a good team who came for a point and got it. We weren't good enough on the day to force the issue in our favour but I do think we'll play much worse than that this season and win games. An over-reliance on Palmer is another worry. He ran them ragged first half but once they got goal side of him in twos and threes he was effectively nullified and their press meant we couldn't spread the ball round in front of their box. I worry that once teams start doing that every game, we will have a big problem. I do struggle to trust Enzo to be able to orchestrate the passing from midfield to enable us to take advantage of the numbers we'll have once teams start doubling and tripling up on Palmer. He struggled yesterday. I'd have played Nkunku or Chukwuemeka there if they were fit (Nkunku I think was tired after midweek which is why we didnt see him sooner) and I think Felix there would be better as well. For sure you can see where Paez and Willian Estevao can slot into this set-up, though I do worry their additions will mean the end of Palmer in an Chelsea shirt as they'll cash in on him for 150m+. Bournemouth is now suddenly a big game and hopefully Reece James will be back. CAREFREE. Edited September 2 by Morgs 6

Original 21
I think we should’ve signed that Aston Villa striker, Duran, we were being linked with. Don’t know why we didn’t have him as backup option in case the Osimhen deal fell through. Villa were keen to sell him at one point. Think he’d have been great to compete and even link up with Jackson and looks more an out and out striker than Jackson.

Bigpokey24
Enzo Maresca did not get either of the two players he requested from sporting directors https://www.yahoo.com/sports/enzo-mares ... 00506.html Jacob Steinberg’s piece on Chelsea’s transfer window released today has some interesting notes. He claims that manager Enzo Maresca had made specific requests to those signing players for him: “Chelsea’s new head coach, had asked for two positions to be strengthened before the end of the transfer window. He wanted a centre-back and a top No 9… Late on Friday night, though, the recruitment team had to admit defeat in their attempt to convince [Victor] Osimhen to fit into Chelsea’s stringent wage structure. There was no new centre-back either, although there was still a flurry of activity. We could have predicted those would be the positions he wanted to be strengthened. In fact, we’re surprised he hasn’t also asked for a goalkeeper and a proper defensive midfielder too. All four of those have been lingered problems for some time, and the sporting directors seeming obsession with signing more wide and creative attacking players is even more strange in the context of those urgent needs. The piece goes on to detail the push for Victor Osimhen, and how it all fell apart because of the demands of the striker. That’s fair enough – but weren’t those demands pretty predictable? Couldn’t they have been established months ago? The dust settles after a crazy window Chelsea have certainly added some good players this summer, but in order to do so they had to sell and loan some very good players too. While the squad is certainly different, it’s hard to say it looks that much better, and it’s still lacking in those key positions. If our defensive options live up to their potential and Nicolas Jackson keeps improving, we might be ok. But those are big question marks. We can’t imagine Maresca has been filled with confidence in the competence of his superiors now. 1

The way I see it is that if he wanted to be at Chelsea, he'd be here already. If he's 24-25 and his options are Saudi or the Turkish league at this point, i'm not sure I see that as a positive. And as we've just finally got rid of an incredibly expensive millstone from around our necks, perhaps the Club felt that risking another was a bad idea right now. 1

If we could not make it happen cos of salary over the last 3 months, I struggle to see why we would make it happen next summer. As you say, if he really wanted the move, he would be here already. His contract will be the same next summer. So it will require a strategy change from our side. Or it requires something going drastically wrong in Turkey, which is no stronger than Italy, so I can't see him struggling out there. Maybe the strategy changes our side if we are sat languishing in mid table come April time.

Bigpokey24
Victor’s camp confirmed a late approach from Liverpool and they are one of the clubs that plan to come back in January. The claim is that 2 EPL clubs and 2 Serie A clubs will be back in January. The sticky point for the loan confirmation to Turkey is Victor is insisting on a January release clause with a reasonable number. Once that’s agreed, he’s off to Turkey.
