I see Slippy G has succumbed to taking the Saudi Riyal.  Just been announced as manager of Etiffaq.

Why not.
Easy money by the bucket load.
If he stays a couple of years he can buy the city of Liverpool 😀

Don't forget he was also the face a major brand for the Qatar world cup.

 😀

Because it was footballers who brought their virtue signaling into the game.

They are fine at making themselves look good with thei right-on  gestures and spouting off on their social media pages, but when it comes to  making a real stand or actually sacrificing something, they will be found wanting and shown up for hypocritical fakes that they are. None more so than the very right-on Scoucers.

Absolutely insane.  Did they not see what Villa looked like with and without a proper manager or how far behind Celtic, Rangers finished?

The good thing is when he inevitably nicks something he'll be able to afford platinum hooks.

Thought this was interesting:

The goal keeping/and size of them, was a spoiler right from the off.

The media need to stop trying to compare the men's and women's game as it's not fair to the women.

Looks like it's going to a penalty shoot out to determine whether we get Jackson back immediately or not.

Haha.  Thank you Mendy for being totally clueless at penalties.

Jackson is on his way home.

That's the first and only bit I'm watching of the AFCON. Worth all ten minutes.

Really?  I don't really watch Afcon, but it is the one international tournament that I think actually deserves to take players out of the club leagues.
There seems to be far more national feeling there than any European nation, especially now that almost all the colonialists are gone, even the French.

I disagree. All I see are thousands of people in the crowd more interested in choreography and outfits than the game.

European fans are truly tribal. The football means everything (with the exception of a few prawn sandwich types here in England).

The vuvuzelas in South Africa have ruined African football for me.

Great players though, don't get me wrong.

Apparently Bayern have held conversations with Kompany (amongst others) about the managers job. We really do have a massive lack of top quality managers in the game at the moment don’t we!

Nothing against Kompany, I think he’s done a decent job at Burnley, but for him to be linked with one of the top jobs in the game at this stage of his career, is crazy IMO.

The Bayern board must be under the influence of drink or drugs to even consider giving him the job.

Some basic info about Brazilian football, for those who might be interested.

Brazil is the only country in the world that historically has 12 big clubs (the "G-12"), being them:

  • CORINTHIANS (from the state of São Paulo)
  • PALMEIRAS (from the state of São Paulo)
  • SÃO PAULO (from the state of São Paulo)
  • SANTOS (from the state of São Paulo)
  • FLAMENGO from the state of Rio de Janeiro)
  • VASCO DA GAMA (from the state of Rio de Janeiro)
  • FLUMINENSE (from the state of Rio de Janeiro)
  • BOTAFOGO (from the state of Rio de Janeiro)
  • CRUZEIRO (from the state of Minas Gerais)
  • ATLÉTICO MINEIRO (from the state of Minas Gerais)
  • GRÊMIO (from the state of Rio Grande do Sul)
  • INTERNACIONAL (from the state of Rio Grande do Sul)

Furthermore, Brazil also has some clubs that are quite important, although they are not included in the group of the other 12 big ones, such as: Bahia, Athletico Paranaense, Coritiba, Sport, Ceará, Fortaleza, Vitória, Goiás and others from different areas of the country.

That's the basic setup.

Many of the greatest footballers to ever play the game worldwide have come from these clubs.

Thanks for the education.

How would you rank them in terms of size/history?

You're very welcome.

That's a highly complex theme in the country, and subject to a lot of heated debate... haha

Historically, all 12 are very big and all of them had moments of dominance along the decades.

But of course today there are clear differences in size amongst them, as time went by.

For example, Flamengo has a fanbase of over 40 million people, whereas Botafogo has about 3 million supporters. So there is a huge difference between them, which is also reflected on the pich and the titles won by each of them (clubs with a bigger fanbase tend to have more financial potential and power than clubs with fewer fans).

I believe the 4 undisputed biggest clubs in Brazil are CORINTHIANS, FLAMENGO, PALMEIRAS and SÃO PAULO (not necessarily in this order).

Those are the ones that tick more boxes on what makes a club big in South America: history, titles and fanbase.

And the smallest of all twelve is definitely Botafogo (many people even try to exclude them from the "G-12" group).

As an outsider I thought Santos would have been in the frame too or do I mainly know them because of player sales? 🤔
