By the time we get this lot fit, we'll have lost another 10 to injuries anyway.

Still a few days before the match on Sunday. Plenty of time for more injuries

That's the spirit, lads!

Injury prone players who we've invested significant amounts of money in:

  • Wesley Fofana - 342 days out with injury before joining across 3 seasons.
  • Noni Maduke - 270 days out with injury before joining across 4 seasons.
  • Christopher Nkunku - 181 days out with injury before joining across 3 seasons.

Injury prone players who we've decided to captain despite their record:

  • Reece James - 409 days out with injury before this season across 4 seasons.

But why dear lord are we so unlucky with so many of our players out with injury?

This means that out of our six senior pros (James, Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Disasi, Sterling, and Nkunku), three are injury prone (James, Chilwell, and Nkunku), one is nearly fourty and one has a name that sounds like he plays - disaster.

No wonder we rely on Sterling so much.

Also you just yesterday Max about a player we backed out of signing who has missed 127 days over two years;

Fair point, Ham. Those also calling for Maddison should note what happens when he gets injured, which is bound to happen for a couple of months this season.

My point was always this - if you rely on a small number of experienced pros you leave yourself open to problems. Especially if they are injury prone.

Does that mean should not have bought Nkunku? Not necessarily. But relying on him to be the one difference maker in our forward line spells disaster.

Buy Nkunku and Maddison. Hedge your bets. Or buy Nkunku and Vlahovic. But as Fabrizio Romano has pointed out, we felt we didn't need a no.9 to score goals...

“They had the chance to sign other strikers in the summer, like Dusan Vlahovic, but Chelsea were never 100% convinced about going for a traditional number 9."

Have just seen this on Twitter.

I have to say, there’s no smoke without fire here IMO.

A one-off spate of injuries is bad luck. Consistently having the highest in the league over 2-3 years whilst hearing things like this in the media points towards something else at play.  (Reece James PT also deleted a cryptic social media post last year)

The Medical / Fitness / Strength & Conditioning teams have such a huge impact nowadays and all of the data would point towards us going wrong somewhere

Should note.

  1. Tweet has been deleted.
  2. Odd that he claims to know the solution, yet his own client is current out with the same issues.

I posted something a few weeks ago, might have been in conversation with @Sleeping Dave a few pages back, but we've had a long history with injury issues going back to the early 2010's - specifically hamstrings and knees. This isn't a new problem for us, and plenty has changed within the medical department from then to now. The idea a random PT suddenly knows the fix-all solution does sound a little too good to be true.

Edit: This is the prior post I referenced earlier. 126 injuries over 5 seasons (2009/10 to 2013/14).

Commented on the direct post @Max Fowler made, but we've had a staggering number of injures going all the way back to the early 2010's, with hamstring and knee's being that the forefront. It's also a little ironic that this PT's own client is out injured with the problems he claims to know the answer for. Now, maybe it's just a coincide and he's been hired after Chalobah picked up his injury as a response, but it's also not as if Chalobah has been extensively played or lacked the time to be eased back into things.

Considering RJ's PT also hasn't helped him in the slightest, does need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Also, this is not the first time something has "leaked" from Chalobah's "team" over the last year. He reportedly leaked the starting line-up last season for our Southampton game, which we went on to lose.
