A wonderful dynamo player he never stopped , I was just remembering that goal against Arsenal and low and behold it's on the OCWS in all it's glory and the OCWS have given him a glittering tribute that he thoroughly deserves .

First saw John playing for the "juniors" at the Old Welsh Harp ground...then if my OG memory serves me right his debut away at Wolves...certainly the first game I remember seeing him play for the First Team.

As with the WC class of 66 so many of "That Chelsea Era" no longer with us..

.RIP John a warm Chelsea memory forever....and that Arsenal goal..GOLD.

Had to follow up after watching the Arsenal goal on the Chelsea site...I was at SB that day and one of my most fondly remembered moments.

Those who remember John will not need to be reminded but he was an early "long throw" specialist only conceding the duty when Hutch arrived and Hutch was phenomenal!

Thank you John.

One of the Chelsea greats, part of the "H" team which out-Leedsed Leeds to win the FA Cup and silence the music hall jokers. An integral member of the team when I first started supporting them. RIP John, true blue despite a sojourn at another, unmentionable London Club.

RIP John Hollins. He was a good bit  before my time as a player . Always liked listening to him talk as he had a lovely calming voice.

Question for those with a better memory than me. Did he had another spell as caretaker manager here in the early 90’s ?? I don’t know why, but I seem to have this memory as a kid. I remember Dave Webb did , not sure if that was lates 80s or early 90s? I just seem to have this memory of us being in a really poor run and a manager had been sacked, then Hollins took over for 2-3 games ??

Not to my knowledge or recollection. 90s was Campbell, Porterfeld, Webb,  Hoddle, Gullit, Vialli

He didn't 'do a Lampard' and return to the club as caretaker after being sacked.

Two other London clubs.

I remember John as being one of the talented nice guys in football - as a manager not so sure of his talent.

I remember being at the bridge in the mid 80's when we got tanked by notts forest 2-6 with Franz Carr running Darren Wood ragged.

It was obvious to all and sundry we needed to stop the flow from Carr but John did nothing.

Those were the days when expectations were much lower as well as player's wages.

As a player John gave 100% like most players then.RIP John I will remember you as a shining light when I had a bright eyed and bushy tailed view of football.

Was lucky enough to share a drink with him a few years back. Absolutely lovely bloke who was Chelsea through and through, very humble about his own playing career but was thrilled at what Chelsea had become.

I mainly remember the flowing mane of hair. RIP

More bouffant than flowing, I would say.

Saw him play a few times, but mainly - as a kid - I remember he was one of the easiest players to pick out from a distance when Chelsea used to train half a mile or so from where I lived in 1971
